ELVIS SERIES (East London Five Interclub Series) 2009
Races and Dates: Newman Hilly 5 miles– Wednesday 8th July
Havering 90 5 miles – Tuesday 14th July
Orion 5 miles - Saturday 1st August
Barking Park 5k – Bank Holiday Monday 31st August
Dagenham 88 Off road 5 ish Sunday 20th September
The Grand Prix will be an Open competition for competitors of all clubs. In addition there will be an interclub team competition between the 5 organising clubs only – Barking Road Runners, Dagenham88, Havering 90, Orion Harriers and Ilford AC.
Open Competition:
Rules : Competitors can compete in any 4 of the 5 races to qualify for the
Grand Prix. If 5 races competed the best 4 positions will be taken.
Finishing positions in each race will be used to calculate the Grand Prix position
Prizes: 1st,2nd 3rd men overall, 1st 2nd 3rd women overall, 1st only in usual vet categories, MV40, MV50, MV60, FV35, FV45,FV55. Only 1 prize per competitor based on highest value principle. Prizegiving will take place immediately after the last race – The Dagenham 5 ish. These will be in the form of vouchers - values yet to be determined.
There will be an extra prize this year for the best performance by an athlete dressed as an "Elvis Impersonator" over the 5 races. The Organisers will decide the winner taking into account factors such as costume, postion within the race etc.
Interclub Competition:
Rules : Competitors must be 1st claim members of the 5 competing clubs. There will 2 separate team competitions, one for men and another for women, with 6 scorers in each. These will be 1st 2nd and 3rd overall finishers from each club plus the 1st 2nd and 3rd vet finishers from each club. A vet is defined as being 40 years old or over on race day in the case of men and 35 yrs old or over on race day in the case of women. In the case where a vet occupies any of the first 3 overall positions the next vet finisher from the club will count. The scoring will again be done on overall position in the race i.e taking into account other runners from the non 5 competing teams. The individual scores will be accumulated to decide the team position for each race and the winners will receive 1 point, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 3 points, 4th place 4 points and 5th place 5points. All 5 races will count with the team scores for each race being accumulated over the 5 races to decide the final team positions. The team with the lowest accumulated score after the 5 races will be declared the winners. In the event of a tie between 2 teams the team with the lowest accumulated individual scores over the 5 races will be declared as superior.
Prizes: There will be two interclub shields (men and women) to be kept by the winning teams for one year which will then be returned. In addition this year there will be a shield for the 1st male and 1st female to be retained for 1 year.
Sponsorship: Runnersworld specialist running shops have agreed sponsorship for 2009. Entry Forms:Each club to be responsible for their own race organisation as now but all entry forms to include common Elvis Logo/Grand Prix info.
Results: Individual race results will be recorded on an excel spreadsheet to facilitate Grand Prix scoring which will be the job of Martin Clarke of Ilford AC. Results should be sent to Martin Clarke asap. Need to get results quickly from last race for prizegiving. Results together with the latest Grand Prix positions will be posted on Ilford AC's website www.ilfordathleticclub.org.uk as soon as possible
